What is UC Cameras?
UC Cameras is a program initiated by the Undergraduate Council in association with Harvard Undergraduate Television (HUTV) to make video equipment more available to undergraduate student groups. The program allows representatives of officially recognized student groups to borrow video equipment from HUTV.
How long may students rent UC Cameras?
The typical rental period is one day. Ordinarily, cameras checked out on the first day must be returned by 4pm on the second day. However, depending on equipment availability, previous use, and logistical reasons, equipment may be rented for longer. No equipment will be available over major University holidays when the HUTV designee is not in residence (Winter Break, Spring Break, Summer Recess) HUTV is working to establish a J-Term Short Film Program, in which case a designee would be available to rent equipment.
Where do students sign up to rent UC Cameras?
Students may contact the HUTV EVP of Show Management, Chris Masterson, directly at cmasterson1992@gmail.com or HUTV EVP of Show Production, Jonathan Sparks, directly at jsparksfly@gmail.com. Â Equipment is available on a first come- first served basis. (We are working to create a web application at the HUTV Website, although at present time, this application is still in Beta mode)
What type of cameras can students rent?
The UC has purchased two Canon HV-40 high definition camcorders for use by student groups. Members of officially recognized student groups always receive priority in reserving and using these cameras. While these cameras are more than adequate for most functions, HUTV also owns several “prosumer” camera setups in both standard and high definition formats. While existing HUTV shows receive priority in reserving and using this equipment, student groups may request this equipment and it will be rented on a case by case basis.
Do I have to pay a fee to use the cameras?
No fee is levied by HUTV or the UC under normal use. However, if any item of equipment is returned in a damaged condition, or if any item of Equipment is not returned for any reason, including but not limited to destruction, confiscation, theft or act of God, Lessee shall pay to the Undergraduate Council the cost of repair or replacement of any damaged or lost Equipment.
