The UC Loans Pilot Program is an initiative headed by the Subcommittee for Loan Management within the UC’s Finance Committee to provide loans to student groups so that they may be able to meet the costs of any fundraising effort ordinarily not supported by the UC Grants system. You must be a Harvard College officially recognized student group of good standing with the Office of Student Life. Student organizations that have long-term financial arrangements with the UC may not be eligible for UC Loans unless otherwise arranged.
Your below application must be turned in at least 3 weeks before the event/project.
A Liaison on the Subcommittee for Loan Management (SLM) within the Finance Committee will be assigned to your application.
The Liaison will arrange a time to meet with you personally within a week of receiving your application to discuss your event/project.
For this meeting, please present 2 hard copies of the following documents:
A full and thorough budget of your event/project including anticipated expenses and revenue.
All available invoices pertaining to the costs of your event/project, consistent with your budget. Please make it easy to match invoices with budget items. The more invoices you can provide, the better we can assess your loan. Relevant invoices from past events can also be helpful in evaluating costs.
Please also send a digital copy of the items (a), (b), and (c) to your liaison’s email, cc’ing the SLM Chair (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Please write in subject line: UC Loans: the name of your student group, and the title of your event/project.
E.g. UC Loans, Harvard Society for Microwavable Toys, Annual Fundraiser.
After this meeting, the Liaison will bring your proposal to the next SLM meeting, where it shall receive a vote. SML will assess your loan according to its judgment of your application and these funding guidelines.
Upon SLM approval, the Finance Committee will vote on your application and UC General will approve your loan. You will be contacted by the SLM Chair regarding your loan.
Within one week after your event, you will need to write a check to the “Harvard Undergraduate Council”, repaying the entire sum of the loan. In addition, you must present your Liaison with a copy (electronic is fine) of your final budget, detailing your actual costs and revenues (this information is required for statistical purposes of this pilot program) within three weeks after your event. No grants will be accepted or processed for your group until loans are paid in full.
As a pilot program, loans will be made in a competitive process due to limited funding.
